Interactive Metronome (IM)
Feeling out of sync and like you just can’t seem to get focused?
Interactive Metronome® may be your answer
IM is the only training program that improves timing in the brain in an organized, systematic, flexible, and engaging format. Research shows that combining movement and cognitive tasks leads to better overall outcomes. IM is a patented and unique training tool that challenges thinking and movement simultaneously, providing real-time millisecond feedback to help synchronize the body’s internal clock. By restoring the critical skill of Neuro-timing adults and children can effectively rewire the brain to work more efficiently and effectively. Neuro-timing has been linked to everything from brain injuries to Parkinson’s disease to ADHD.
Available Both In-Office & At Home
IM-Home is the at-home version of the Interactive Metronome® (IM). IM has been helping children and adults make functional gains in everyday life for years. These gains range from walking to talking and reading to writing.
The at-home program allows you to participate in the web-based eClinic with a program tailored just for you. At-home IM allows you the convenience of getting more therapy time in with access to the equipment daily. Your scores are recorded and sent to your IM Home Specialist, who can monitor your progress and make any modifications to your program as you progress through treatment. Your IM Home Specialist is always just a click away with our built-in messaging feature should you have any questions.
What is Interactive Metronome®(IM)?
IM is a non-invasive, evidence-based training and assessment tool proven to improve cognition, attention, focus, memory, speech/language, executive functioning, comprehension, as well as motor and sensory skills. IM challenges you to synchronize a range of whole-body exercises to a precise computer-generated beat and provides visual and auditory feedback for improved brain timing, rhythm, and synchronization. IM is simply a way of measuring and improving Neuro-timing, the synchronization of neural impulses within the brain network.
Who should use Interactive Metronome®(IM)?
Anyone can use IM to enhance their brain timing. However, IM is a great training device for those suffering from a wide range of cognitive and physical difficulties.
What should I expect?
The IM program consists of sensors held in one or both hands, headphones, and a computer. Each time you hear the metronome through the headphones, you tap the sensor so the computer can measure your performance to 2/1000th of a second. The computer will give feedback that will let you know if you’re off beat and by how much so that you can work to correct it.
Is there an age limit?
Absolutely not. The research behind IM has been shown to assist with improvement at any age.
How often should I use IM?
The in-office IM program consists of 3 one-hour weekly sessions for approximately 12-18 visits.
What is the benefit of having an IM Home program?
IM home allows full access to the equipment, so it easily fits into your busy schedule. With the at-home program, just 20 minutes per day has been proven to provide positive results.
As with any intervention, the varying degrees of severity affect the immediacy of the outcome. As long as the patient can perform and tolerate assisted repetitive limb movements, positive results from IM treatment should be seen over time.
